Vaccinations and the Law
Immunization is very necessary to the health of an individual. Therefore, it's the key to the survival of the nation. This has been recognized all throughout American history. Thomas Jefferson must have had “health” in mind when he wrote, “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Jefferson was an innovator and a scientist. He was also a strong supporter of the vaccination for minute pox. At the time when the Declaration of Independence was drafted, that was the only vaccination known. Until today, state and federal immunization laws have always been consistent with American citizenship. The privilege each American gets includes freedom as well as safety from risks. Immunization provides this safety and protection, not only from the diseases but also from the people the immunized person comes in contact with. Immunization laws alteration our understanding of the disease because it allows us to control our immune system. However, vaccination is a benefit every American must get, as authored in American law. Vaccination Laws Control Epidemics American courts continuously address the legal issues on whether the government compels vaccination. They have supported immunization countless times. States have laws spelling out what kind of vaccinations every American must receive under any circumstance. There are also federal laws that specify the information that must be bestowed to the parent before his or her child is immunized. Stated in Section 2616 of the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act under Public Health Service, every health care providers in the United States that administer vaccine must provide copies of these vaccine information substances produced by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Vaccines for tetanus, measles, rubella, polio vaccine, mumps, pertussis and diphtheria must come with a supplement of oral explanations and visual presentations, once needed. Preventing Outbreaks Public health officials simply do not rely on vaccines in order to control the epidemic. For the prevention of the spreading of the diseases, it's very necessary that Americans have sanitary water and efficient food supplies. Everyone must also be educated on cleanliness, cleanliness and disease prevention. Parents must be informed The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourage that parents must be informed when it comes to the dangers of these diseases and the advantages vaccination provides. Talking to health care providers enable them to have this knowledge. By law, parents or guardians must be given the proper information about these things because it affects the health of the patient. A recently conducted national survey showed that a lot parents turn the health of their child over to heath care providers. This is not wise. The parent must have the information he or she requirements for the benfit of the child. They can obtain this information by calling the National Immunization Program information at 1-800-232-2522. School Immunization Laws Every state has immunization requirements. These are called “school laws” and are met before a child enters school. These are vaccinations against diphtheria, tetanus, mumps, polio, hepatitis B, rubella, measles and pertussis. Some states added varicella vaccination to the needed vaccine list. In the bulk states, the parent is asked to bring authored proof that the child received the immunization vaccines from any credible clinic or health provider during school registration. If the vaccination was not obtained, the child must receive this before he begins schooling. This not only protects the child, but the teachers, parents, grandparents and visiting volunteers as well. Anyone who enters the classroom or has services in the school will have a blanket of protection. It is also recommended that pregnant women have regular doses of vaccination, especially on rubella. Rubella causes grave damages including blindness, brain damage, heart disease and deafness. If not obtained, the woman might have a chance of miscarriage. Adult Immunization Laws There are no mandated vaccines for adults – only to those who are serving in the military. The National Immunization Program recommends immunization for adults, depending on their ages, occupations and special circumstances. However, these immunizations are not needed or stated as such by the law. Take this for example; an adult can seek the immunization in order to protect himself from traumas like influenza and pneumonia. Some may want immunization in order to protect themselves from those who have the disease. |
