How Neck Liposuction Can Change Your Look

The face is usually what we notice first in another individual. The areas surrounding the face such as the neck are also very visible so much so that a flabby neck can make a person appear older or fatter.

Many people who have this problem may try neck exercises or dieting in an attempt to lose the extra fat in their necks. Unfortunately, the neck is one body part that is highly resistant to these methods. What is more, reasons such as age and genetics can also influence the accumulation of fat in this area so that even when you may have lost weight or fat in some areas of your body, your neck stays unchanged.

With neck liposuction, this problem can be easily corrected. Neck liposuction will eradicate the flab in your neck and give it better profile, improving the overall looks and contour of your face.

    How is neck liposuction performed?

During neck liposuction surgery, a tiny incision would be made in your skin usually under your chin or behind your ear lobes. Next, a minute hollow tube known as cannula would be inserted via the incision. With the cannula, your surgeon will work via the area to break up the deposits of fat, which is then removed by suction.

Neck liposuction takes around an hour to perform depending on the size of the area. It is usually performed with local anesthesia and sometimes with sedation. Neck liposuction is an outpatient regimen so you're allowed to go home a few hours after surgery. Most likely, you will have to wear a sling around your neck.

Sometimes especially when the skin is not elastic, the skin on the neck may sag or become loose as a result of fat loss. In this case, the patient may opt for a neck lift or a face lift, which can be done either along with or after neck liposuction.

What should you expect after a neck liposuction?

Normally, your neck will feel sore after surgery and there would be bruising and swelling in the treated area together with numbness. Your surgeon may give you medications to take orally to relieve your discomfort. These side-effects typically subside within approximately two to three weeks.

Care of the treated area may involve wearing a snug elastic band over your neck for some weeks after liposuction. This is to control the swelling and provide support to the new shape of your neck. You would be able to take up light activity and return to your office after a week.

You will beginning to notice the result of your neck liposuction within three weeks when the bulk of the swelling is gone. However, it may take various months sometimes up to a year before the final outcome is achieved. But once the healing way is complete, you could expect long-lasting results.

Neck liposuction permanently eliminates the fat cells in your neck so it's guaranteed that you will not pile up fat in this area of your body again.
