Workers are not a “special interest” – they’re intimately involved in the companies in which they work. They’re not seeking undue privilege, they’re seeking a fair shake in their jobs. The workers movement is responsible for the 40 hour work week, many safety laws, ends to child labour, and preventing all sorts of other abuses.
Owning stock in a corporation, particularly through a savings plan, doesn’t really make them institutions of the people.
